Collection: Jean Baptiste Germain
Jean-Baptiste Germain (1841–1910) was a distinguished 19th-century French Academic sculptor celebrated for his dynamic bronze allegories and classical figures. Born in Fismes, France, he trained at the prestigious École des Beaux-Arts under neoclassical masters Augustin-Alexandre Dumont and Charles-Alphonse Guméry. Germain was a frequent exhibitor at the Paris Salon between 1866 and 1879, eventually becoming a member of the Société des Artistes Français. His work seamlessly blended strict neoclassical anatomy with the fluid, emotional energy of Romanticism, producing acclaimed pieces like Le Torrent and Le Semeur (The Sower), the latter of which is preserved in the permanent collection of the Musée d'Orsay.
