Charles Gitnick (American, b. 2002) Untitled (Heart of Guns, Red) Mixed Media: Replica firearms on painted diamond plate metal with acrylic

Charles Gitnick’s powerful mixed-media work transforms instruments of violence into a poignant symbol of love and unity. Arranged meticulously into the shape of a heart, a series of replica firearms—painted in vivid red—are mounted on a diamond plate metal panel, its industrial texture heightened by layers of acrylic paint. The deliberate juxtaposition of harsh, metallic material with the universally human emblem of compassion intensifies the work’s visual and emotional impact. Gitnick’s practice confronts the urgent realities of gun violence while reclaiming the imagery of firearms as tools of awareness rather than destruction. Through bold color and repetition, the artist creates both an arresting visual statement and a deeper call to action—advocating for gun safety, reform, and the promotion of mental health awareness. At once provocative and poetic, this piece stands as a contemporary conceptual artwork that merges social commentary with striking aesthetic force.
